The zoo was opened for public in 1948. First enclosures for animals were built and the amount of species increased. The area became a „real zoo“ in 1953 on the basis of decree of Ministry of Agriculture. In that time the collection numbered 300 animals among them kangaroos, llamas or camels. That year attendance was around 34 000 visitors.
